Outlook 2007 speed issues – following Automatic Update

In December 2010 Microsoft released a patch for Microsoft Outlook 2007 (known as KB2412171) which was intended to improve the functionality and security of Outlook.

Unfortunately this patch actually caused some speed issues with Outlook as well as removing the “Archive” and “Auto-Archive” features from Outlook.

This patch was replaced with a newer, working version on Jan 11th 2011.

If you notice that Outlook 2007 has speed issues, or that you have lost the ability to Archive emails, you may wish to remove this patch and to then reinstall it.

How to uninstall this update
1. Click Start, and then click Run
2. Type appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.
3. Use one of the following procedures, depending on the operating system that you are running:

o Windows 7 or Windows Vista
a. Click View installed updates.
b. In the list of updates, locate and click update 2412171, and then click Uninstall.

o Windows XP
a. Click the Show updates check box.
b. In the list of updates, locate and click update 2412171, and then click Remove.

To reinstall the patch:

1. The recommended route is to visit and to allow all Microsoft Updates to be installed automatically. You may be prompted to run Microsoft Updates from within Control Panel, in which case you should follow the instructions to do so.

2. Otherwise you could visit and follow the instructions provided from Microsoft.
